Suman Krishan Kant, National President of Mahila Dakshata Samiti, was born on 3rd April, 1934 and hails from Punjab. She was the Founder Secretary of the Samiti and later became the General Secretary. She was also the Founder President of the Chandigarh branch from 1977-84 and of the Andhra Pradesh branch from 1990-97. In 1993 she was elected as the President of MDS. During this tenure she would travel several times a month to look after the National office in Delhi and the State office in Hyderabad. It was under her able leadership that the Samiti grew to become a national organization with branches all over the country and abroad like USA and Nepal. It was due to her efforts that a Working Women’s Hostel and a Day Care Centre were established in Andhra Pradesh. She has also established four colleges and a training center for mentally handicapped children in Hyderabad. In Delhi NCR she has set up several Craft Centers and Bal Siksha Kendras under the banner of Mahila Dakshata Samiti. She has also established the Short Stay Home for Women, Snehalaya, in Delhi. Suman Krishan Kant was deeply anguished by the plight of women, especially the dowry victims, and it was on her initiative that Family Counseling Centers were set up in various parts of the country. She has organized several meetings and seminars to create general awareness for women on subjects like, Girl Child, Panchayati Raj, Anti Liquor Movement, Women Empowerment, Violence, etc. In her span of almost four decades, Suman Krishan Kant has participated in several movements like, Anti-Dowry, Violence Against Women, Education of Girl Child, Child Abuse and Empowerment and Equality of Women. She has courted arrest while participating in these movements. She is relentlessly fighting for 33% Reservation of Women in Politics. Her vision is that every girl in India should be educated and empowered.

Widely travelled, Suman Krishan Kant is the Founder and Chief Editor of Bhartiya Janani, the magazine of MDS and has edited two books in Hindi on “Women’s Movement in the 21st Century”. She has been conferred with several awards for her contribution towards the women’s movement in the country.

Mrs Suman Krishan Kant from the inception of MDS has spent almost 4 decades of long, sincere, hard journey fighting for the cause of Women’s Rights and women’s causes. She has been truly the backbone of MDS and for the last 25 years as president has guided MDS to be an NGO to reckon with.

With her indefatigable energy and relentless efforts many young girls, women and children have benefited through MDS. Many family were saved from breaking apart by our adept counselling at Family Counselling Centres ( FCC 

Being the wife of Late Vice president of India Shri Krishan Kant ji, She was always simple, humble, humility intact, gracefully handled MDS for years, through her strong thoughts and actions to improve the conditions of women in our society.
